IMDB rating: 6.60

Plot: New York, 1959. Max Bialystock was once the king of Broadway, but now all his shows close on opening night. Things turn around when he’s visited by the neurotic accountant Leo Bloom, who proposes a scheme tailor-made for producers who can only make flops: raise far more money than you need, then make sure the show is despised. No one will be interested in it, so you can pocket the surplus. To this end, they produce a musical called Springtime for Hitler written by escaped Nazi Franz Liebken. Then they get the insanely flamboyant Roger De Bris to direct. Finally, they hire as a lead actress the loopy Swedish bombshell Ulla (whose last name has over 15 syllables). As opening night draws near, what can go wrong? Well, there’s no accounting for taste…

Should Defra be allowed to get away with a U-turn on banning the barbaric act of beak trimming?
Beak trimming is practised to prevent chickens which are kept in cramped and crowded conditions from pecking each other. Beak trimming or ‘debeaking’ as It is known, entails removing up to one third a chicken’ beak with a red hot blade or infra-red beam and causes the animal a great deal of pain. A ban on this ugly practise was announced in 2002 was due to take effect in January 2011 but now, due to pressure from battery egg producers via a government advisory body, it looks like Defra will not be imposing the ban and merely reviewing in 2015, plans to bring in a ban at some unspecified time in the future.

that’s disgusting that they are allowed to do that. No they shouldn’t get away with it. Defra should stand up and keep the plan they chose, to ban this kind of treatment, i can’t believe they would cave.

So you want chickens to peck each other to death?
Why not push for better living conditions that permit the hens from being so cramped and forced into hostilities with each other?
